Experience
My first memories as a child were at school on an Army base in Germany. I felt fascinated by my surroundings! Toys, crayons, paper, new people, and new books were all around me, and a sweet-faced old woman was in the front of the class enthused to guide us. I have loved learning ever since. During middle school, I realized I wanted to become a physician. Beyond knowing the field I wanted to pursue, my desire to share knowledge with others continued to expand. Students need to feel a sense of wonder to engage in the learning process. Passive listening without interaction is disconnected and ineffective for students to reach their goals. As a teacher, I believe it is essential to engage students within the first 10 minutes. I often start off with a quiz or problem to captivate my audience about the material we're about to explore. Students can be auditory, tactile, or visual learners, and this must be considered within every lesson plan. Science can be shaped to accommodate any learner, and that is a beautiful thing. I hope to cultivate a sense of wonder within my students about learning. To quote Socrates, "I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think."
